To promote Animal Planet’s new show, Whale Wars, Discovery Creative teamed with InTran Media.Discovery Creative, the design division of the Discovery Channel and its properties, which include Animal Planet, designed the vehicle-graphics campaign. The truckside graphics seemingly advertise whale meat – a longstanding Japanese delicacy that’s drawn criticism from environmental groups that claim whaling and whale-meat consumption pose environmental and health hazards.
For two days during the campaign, delivery-truck personnel handed out approximately 5,000 tins bedecked with graphics similar to the vehicles. Inside the tins, they lined the bottoms with red licorice, which approximates whale meat’s deep-crimson hue. [From Signweb.com]
